You all need to read this bill that passed the house and is on it's way to the senate. It's HR 1955 aka The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007

This bill, if passed, could make dissent in this country a crime! This could very well be the scariest piece of legislation EVER passed in this country.

Here is the bill. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.r.01955:

And here is some video about it

And finally, The Center for Constitutional Rights Fact Sheet on the matter.

Read it, learn it, and tell your Senators to vote NO on this dangerous legislation.

Thanks.

Essentially, if this legislation passes, the mere act of speaking out against your government could have you labeled as a terrorist, and as such, the full measure of the patriot act could come down on you. You could very easily be shipped off to Guantanamo Bay, without access to a lawyer, no contact with the outside world, no habeas corpus protections, etc., etc. This will allow your government to decide basically whether you have committed a "thought:" crime. If, for example, you wanted to excercise your constitutionally protected right to free speech, and were to call for any action against the government, or any person or group in this country for that matter, those actions could easily be viewed as a terrorist threat. It doesn't have to be a physical act either, as in violence. The term "force", as used in this bill, is not clearly defined, and in fact appears to have a distinct difference from the term violence. "Force" could be as simple as broadcasting your message on the internet.

Now there are lots of people in this country who take the position that laws such as the patriot act will never be used against ordinary american citizens, yet that is exactly what happened right here in Las Vegas. It was the very first reported abuse of the patriot act, and there have been countless since. A highly successful gentlemans club owner with reputed mob ties was prosecuted in large part from financial records obtained via the patriot act. He has absolutely NO ties to any terrorist group whatsoever, the government conceded that already. Yet, they still were able to use the financial data against this man.

This new law, if passed, would make the patriot act seem like a traffic ticket compared to what they could do with this one. If you watch the 2 videos, they do a pretty good job of explaining what it is and hoqw it might affect you.

Hope that helps a little. Let me know if you need more.

Oh ok... I think I get it now...and I don't like it...that F&*% sucks... so you mean like if I were to go and protest on the streets for something that doesn't even have to do with the war in Iraq they can still acuse/lable me as a terrorist??? Meaning that if this act passes we have no more freedom of speech???
