Well today Jami, Perico and I took Mom to old Mexico in search for her birth place.
A church just south of Juarez
We entered through the Santa Teresa border in order to bypass CD Juarez. They are ejecuting seven people a day in Juarez and we were just trying to avoid all the traffic. Nothing to see there. Actually not much in Santa Teresa either, no traffic or people, great!
The Angel of Liberty in Chihuahua
We stopped in Villa Ahumada, a place where recently they had arrested most of all the local police (including the Chief) for having ties to the drug cartel. It is not a very scenic place, but they do have some of the best quesadillas on this side of the border. We ate and ate. Jami proved she is a true Mexican, she was not shy about eating plenty of food and speaking the local language, not bad for a kid from Las Vegas NV.
We also stopped in Chihuahua. Here we had a coctail of mixed fresh fruit with lemon and red powder chilli. We laughed when Perico asked for cocono instead of coco.
I need to come back and spend more time here, there is a lot of history.
We continued our journey south. It was starting to get late and we finally landed in Torreon late at night. The place was not very pleasant, or at least we got that impression. It was dusty and more of an industrial town, or at least the area we were on. We found a motel and slept good.
Tomorrow we reach Aguascalientes.
